Initial contact, fees and location

It can be confusing for many people to know what kind of help would best meet their needs. Looking for a therapist or counsellor can be an anxious time while you are trying to find a safe and qualified professional, someone you feel you can build a trusting relationship with in order to help you. The first step involves an initial consultation in which we discuss the most appropriate form of therapy or counselling - and whether time-limited, long-term, individual, couple, or group therapy would prove most helpful. This initial meeting lasts usually 50 minutes.

We then look at whether we might work together or if a referral to another therapist would be better for you. I belong to several networks of highly qualified practitioners who refer to each other. Therapy is confidential, but where appropriate I work jointly with other professional or GP’s. I comply with the continuing professional development requirements of my profession. I have collegial support and follow appropriate professional guidelines.

I welcome self referrals as well as calls from GPs, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, or other members of the helping professions, for example members of the complementary medicines.

Fees are negotiable and considered in context of income and affordability. You may want to contact which provides a list of practitioners offering options for low-cost psychotherapy.
